Default Broken Timing Belt???????

I think my timing belt just broke!!

I get the whine when i try to crank it. it sounds like it wants to start, but wont. is there a way to check th TB to see if it has in fact broke without taking the entire front clip off?

Edit: 99.5 1.8T auto

The B5 faq, tech, or search features of this forum should help you out plenty.

Default Either that, or you have an oil sludge issue

That would mean that your camshaft siezed and broke off the woodruff key that keeps the cam pulley timed on the shaft.
