Avant vs Sedan
Good morning all, New to this forum, but been wrenching for over 35 years, just not on Audi's. I am working on a 1999 A4 B5 Avant that was hit in the left rear tire shoving the tire forward and bending the rear subframe. I researched and found the subframe is the same from the Avant to the Sedan. I was able to locate a 2000 A4 quatro and searched by VIN that both subframes and subsequent parts are the same minus the strut and wheel bearing housing. The Avant housing part number is 8A0505427G where as the part number for the sedan is 8D0505427 (no G). I put the car back together using the old wheel housing and strut and the wheel is sitting just outside the wheel well and still seems like it has a forward cant to it. Can I use the sedan wheel bearing housing even though it's one digit off? Both are cast pieces and I would think they'd break vs bend, but I've run into crazier things. I will upload pictures of the before and after soon. Has anyone else bent the wheel bearing housing?

Generally, a ### vs ###-G would indicate a different part. What that difference is, I don't know. It could be a bearing dimension, geometry change, material change, certain area reinforced, lots of things. You can check if the G part supercedes the non-G.
Otherwise, I would stick to the part called out in the catalog for your car.
If the subframe moved I would have the car measured on a jig and make sure all the critical points are still within manufacturer specification.
