anyone wonder why the RS4 is only an avant, and not a coupe or sedan? Not everyone wants a wagon.

With European wagon sales at ~50% of total sales, Audi can own the category with the AMG C32 and M3 battling it out for the coupe/sedan consumers.

Part of it is tradition.
This same topic <a href="https://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/s4/msgs/114393.phtml">came up</a> on the S4 forum the other day, and here was my take on it:

The predecessor of the RS4 -- the RS2, above -- was an Avant as well. It's probably done out of a sense of tradition to Audi's rallying roots, as rally cars were usually hatchbacks, like the infamous S2:

I personally wouldn't be surprised to see Audi to eventually return to a coupé-based RS car, now that the TT has replaced the older coupé chassis as Audi's current hot two-door. RSTT -- or whatever they're going to call it -- I bet it'll be quick.
