I've got a 2001 A4 1.8t, just under 15K on the car. At slow speeds I can hear a faint groan when the steering wheel is turned about 180 degrees to the left or the right. Anyone have this problem, or know what causes it?

I've seen quite a few go bad before. I've seen no pump failures and very few hose failures on A4s.

slow speed or complete stop, turning wheel to the right...resulted in a groan. diagnosed as worn/bad tie rod ends so they replaced and all was good.

Mine just started to do that. 75k miles. The PS pump already replaced at 60k.
