Default Vancouver BC Area Snow Tires and Rims?

Recently purchased a 99.5 1.8tqs and am looking for suggestions on where to get reasonably priced snows and rims. I remember seeing that many of you use passat rims. Any suggestions where to start? Cost is somewhat a factor but I don't want to use the same rims as the sports.

My dealer mentioned that sometimes they get deals on winter tires as they order in bulk. Has anyone bought directly from the dealer?

Any suggestions or experiences would be much appreciated

Thanks
Simon

As far as rims go, I purchased Passat rims through my mechanic. The volks dealer nearby had 4 sets of rims - take-offs (person buys a PASSAT, and opts for mags). So technically, the rims are used, but they were only on the car for transport only... Bought them for $49 each - Canadian.

Thanks! I'll check with a couple of dealerships around town. Which dealership did you deal with?

Default This is what I did...

I went with the Pirelli W210A's (195/65/15).

The dealer (Richmond) would sell the audi steel 15" wheels for 39 each IF I also bought their tires (Goodyear UltraGrip...or something). Otherwise he was wanting to charge me around 90 bucks for the steel wheel...without covers. I passed.

I scoured the wreckers and found a set of older Audi alloys (15") that had the same fitment for our A4's. You need a 15" rim and ET45 offset with a 5X112 bolt pattern.

Alpi's has a set of Ronal Audi-OEM wheel that seem to be in pretty good shape (one need to really check such wheels over closely). I think they sell them for about 90 or 95 Can. Dollars.
Definitely an option if you prefer Alloy wheels otherwise going with Passat 15" steels seems the best bet IMO.

I did the same as Don but got them for $29 CAD each. The salesman screwed up and gave me the price they charge if you buy rims AND winter tires from them. I got them at Volkswagen in Richmond auto mall.

I recommend as winter tires Pirelli Winter 210 A's. Many A4.orgers support this tire.

Good choice in colour Dennis. Santorin Blue all the way baby!! I bought the Passat Steel Rims and put on 210 A's 205/60/15. Only $29 each.

I like the way the black rims look on a blue backdrop. Kinda like a European police car, rugged yet ready to take on the snow.

Default Alpi's is a very large wreckers (all import)........

and is in Surrey, quite close to the Patullo bridge-head (Surrey side). Check the Yellow Pages as they have a very large Ad.

Simon, if your'e still reading this thread, where did you get the Passat Steel's and the W210a's?
This sounds like a pretty good deal for a local buy and may interest our friend here.
