There was a '98 Avant with a bad engine in the San Diego Craig's List for $1100. How much work are you capable of doing?

I've got the annoying ABS control module beeps (comm error). What's the P/N on your module if it wasn't cracked up in the wreck?

Latest is that State Farm asked my mechanic (VAG specialist) to put the car on the lift and check for hidden damage. Apparently they are 'taking another look' and the figure they're coming up with is short of a total loss but they want to make sure there are no surprises. I trust the mechanic completely. So if they say it's only what's already been identified, State Farm will apparently go for repairing rather than totalling. Or maybe they'll offer me the choice, in which case I think I'd go for the repair. I really don't think for the money (guessing roughly $8K) I'd get I could replace the Avant with anything as nice.

OTOH maybe it won't go that way! Thanks for the advice and queries. I don't know how many parts SF would let me pull if they total it. And I'm really not into pulling large pieces...or shipping them...in any case. The wheels/tires would be a local sale, for sure. A headrest or RS4 grill would be easy to manage though.

I think I saw that San Diego car listed on (another Audi site). That's way more than I'm into doing but thanks for the idea.

Spinners FTW.

---Grumbles about the format still---

It is better though, but QW FTW. **Runs away and hides.
