A4 1.8T high miles O.K?
I was looking at on-line classifieds and saw some 1.8T with over 60,000 miles. Does anyone know how long the engines are suppost to last and at what milage the turbo usually needs to get replaced. Also is it dangerous to chip these high mile cars.

A4s generally live into their 300,000s(miles) at least (sounds funny)

im sure someone out there is driving a 96 2.8 a4 with a TON of miles

That is complete unsubstantiated crap. Have you even heard of one single person who got 300K miles out of an A4?<p><img src="http://www.ringosoft.com/car/sc2.jpg"/>SC400, A4 1.8T on order

That's a lot different than "A4's generally live into their 300,000s" (a little long)
First off saying that implies that there are numerous examples of high mileage A4's on the road today, which is not the case. Second, the earlier models were the older 12 valve V6 and it's engine reliability does not necessarily translate to the newer 30 valve V6, let alone the 1.8T's turbo inline 4, which started as a MY '97 car. There aren't a whole lot of 1.8T owners on this board with over 75,000 miles, let alone 300,000 miles. If you have information regarding the reliability of A4's in general, please share it with us, but if not, please don't generalize based on assumptions that there MUST be some high mileage examples out there.
Personally, I think the A4 1.8T will be reliable for a long time. Audi's engines (including turbos) and drivetrains (especially Quattro). Have traditionally been very reliable. Also, the 1.8T is based on VW/Audi's venerable 1.8 i4 which has proven to be quite relieble, in other configurations. It's too early to say anything about the A4's long term reliability, but based on what I've seen, it should be good. At least, I hope it will, because I'm planning on keeping mine well past 100,000 miles.<p>Regards,
