Default 96 Audi 4 Quattro

The battery died. After replacement, the car turns over but does not fire.
Cannot get the codes back and I do not know the reset sequence.
Short of recommending a $350 connector for my laptop or going to the dealer...
Can anyone please help?
Thanks

Without the ability to pull codes, you're stuck diagnosing old school style.

Just got off the phone with the Audi dealer.
He said the have to pull the radio and get the numbers off of it.
Match those with the VIN number.
Send these to Audi and Audi will give new codes to start the car.
COST: $150 plus towing (and I live in the country).

Major understanding here!

Dealer retrieving and putting in Radio Codes has nothing to do with the car starting or not.

You are confusing the radio code with OBD II codes.

Yes I agree the radio codes have nothing to do with the car starting. If the car ran fine before you replaced the battery, I don't understand why its not starting now unless you hit something. I own the same car and replacing the battery will only clear the codes in the computer if you take awhile to put power back on the car. Car should still start. you might have to recode the door locks and the windows with the remote.
Are you sure you cleaned the connectors. does the car turn over??
old school, to check , spark, getting gas, etc...

Could get a basic OBD2 reader from the parts store. Just be sure to get one that shows data not just codes.

You also might try closing everything and locking and unlocking a few times. Dunno if 96's had an immobilizer

This is an excellent suggestion. No immobilizer in 96, but the alarm could be preventing the car from starting.

try tightening your battery terminals clamps, I've seen this happen before with a bunch of cars. You replace the battery but you cant get it to start because the connectors aren't tight enough.

Default OBDII

A little background. Bought this car for my daughter. Never heard it run, but it was in too good of shape to pass up. Guy who sold it to me said the battery was new; NOT.
OK Put in a new battery today; very tightly installed connections clean.
Tried the lock unlock idea; door locks didn't respond.
Got an OBDII scanner and found the plug was missing. It is on the left side of the drivers compartment. Instead, there is some strange device.
Took pictures, but don't know how to post them here.
