I average 26.1 @ 75-80 mph. Around town I get about 20 -22

I have 44K miles

I can get 28-30 on the highway, 22-24 city

and 18 with a lead foot

it costs me about 16cents/mile on the highway. on the track I empty the tank in an hour

I average about that much...

50/50 highway/city driving and I have a 2001 1.8TQM.

Comparable to my 20-21 MPG over several years

'98.5 2.8 (30V) Avant, 5 speed manual, Sport suspension, 16" wheels. Mostly back road commuting with some interstate driving on weekends. Car now has 97K miles on it.

If you're pushing 80 MPH, might be your problem; back it down to 70. Check the instantaneous MPG to see the difference.
