2001 rear ashtray

What is the black plastic thing to the left of the rear ashtray?

Doesn't seem to be anything under it.

1996 was the first year for OBD, and the first year for the B5. Audi put the OBD plug there in 96. The next year, and thereafter, it was up under the driver's knees. I believe that is the location dictated by OBD rules, but that is only on heresay.

So now its just an empty spot.
