A little inaccurate...
You can run a SC without standalone engine management or without even a chip. A fuel controller and larger injectors would be all that you really need. It is far from ideal, but very doable.
The real issue is that there is no SC kit available for the car. You would have to develop your SC system from scratch...not a small undertaking. There is one guy with a Audi 90 12V that is doing this right now. From what I understand, he already has over 1000 hours into the project himself, and hasn't even bolted anything to the car yet. Doing something like this is not cheap or easy.
