Default A3 3.2 V6 oil change faq

Well I completed my first oil and oil filter change after my A3 3.2 V6 completed 1,000 miles and below I have some pointers and pictures about this procedure.

The Bentley manual does not give enough information on the procedure for changing the oil and oil filter for the 3.2 engine. It only shows the special tools and the procedure for the I4 2.0 engine. You do not need the special tools suggested by Audi for the 3.2 engine. These tools are required only for the 2.0 engine.

You will need a 36mm socket, a 6mm hex drive and a Phillips screw driver (see picture below)

The oil filter part number is 071-115-562-A and according to the Audi parts department it is NOT the same with the 2.0 engine. You should also get a large O-ring for the oil filter cap and an aluminum/copper washer for the oil plug.

First of all you have to remove the plastic shield under the engine. Then put a pan to collect the oil and remove the oil drain plug at the rear of the oil pan. Then using the 6mm hex driver remove the aluminum plug in the center of the oil filter housing (black cylinder in the front of the bottom of the engine. This will drain the oil filter housing and after the oil stops running use the 36mm socket and unscrew the oil filter housing. The oil filter is attached to the oil filter housing.

To complete the oil change just reverses the steps from above and you are done after you have replaced the oil filter, oil plug aluminum gasket, oil filter housing o-ring(s) and filled up the engine with 5.8 quarts of oil. Be careful not to over tighten the oil plug because the oil pan housing is made out of aluminum.

Default Good, no special filter housing drain tool needed. What is filter price?

Also, is there a good center front jacking point to lift the whole front of the car in one go?

Default Is the factory fill synthetic? - dealer said Castrol Syntec 10W-40.

What about break-in additives?

Actually it is the same design with the 2.0. The main difference is the 2.0 engine oil filter requires an $85.00 drain tool.

I believe I paid around $11.00 for the oil filter, big o-ring and oil plug gasket which is cheaper from a Subaru oil filter!!!

I personally use Mobil1 0W-40. It complies to the Audi specifications.

Bentley manual? Doesn't the owner's manual show the oil change procedure?

Will 3.2 filter cover fit the 2.0? Probably cheaper than the special tool..
