Philly-VAG (Volkswagen Audi Group) GTG Sunday 11/6/05.

Philadelphia, PA - The birthplace of our country.

A local-based R32 group and a collection of local AudiWorld members combined forces today to organize a (30+) Volkswagen/Audi meet n' greet and cruise. In doing so, the two groups set the foundation for what will be become an alliance, Philly-VAG.

Warm sunshine helped George (a.k.a. Angry-Cop) and his R32 crew achieve a tremendous turnout. The group featured a fantastic group of guys and showcased some awesome cars! Every single VW you see in these pictures are R32s, almost too many to believe!

The VWs were accompanied by eight cousins. There were three A4s and five A3s to be exact. Project A3's new Ronal wheels made their debut. A few people remarked that the R38s looked amazing, even better than they appear on the <a href="http://www.ronalusa.com/cars/audi_a3.html">Ronal website</a>.

Other items that caught some attention include the Milltek exhaust for the A3 and the EZPass TagSack. Call or stop by the parts counter at <a href="http://porscheaudiparts.com/">Don Rosen Imports</a> in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania for information.

A 45 minute meet and greet was held in South Philly in a large parking lot belonging to Home Depot. This is where VW owner Sean Burke (Quakertown, PA) overheard the quote-of-the-day... "Is this an auction?" asked a perplexed Home Depot shopper after looking at the beautiful vehicles on hand.

Among the Audi owners was Anthony Limberakis who made the trip to Philly from nearby Abington, PA. I had a brief conversation with Anthony's father, who rode shotgun in the 'goodwood' 2002 A4. I learned that "father-son time" is what prompted Mr. L to set the alarm clock for 6 a.m. on a Sunday.

From the "auction" site, the group cruised through Center City. We pit stopped at the Art Museum, where surprisingly nobody attempted to run up the steps. I suppose everyone was more interested in cruising West River Drive. This is the spot where Philly natives bring their cars or street bikes to let the wheels rip a bit (of course never exceeding 35mph).

After a quick jaunt we parked along the river where a few of Philly's finest joined us with a barrage of questions. As we veered into one of the patrol vehicles, we laughed (with the officers) at the headline on the communication monitor, "20+ Jettas racing on West River Drive - please respond". The sergeant looked over both shoulders and announced "Well, I don't even see one Jetta here, see you gentlemen later".

Our tour continued towards the city limits where video cameras waited patiently on overpasses. Due to the organizational and technical skill of the Dubbers, an amazing video will be available for upload in the near future.
