Factory OEM Bluetooth Retro-fitting...
Ran over to the Audi dealership in Santa Monica to ask about adding Bluetooth after delivery of my car as I ordered too early and missed out on that feature. They said that they use a company that does the retro-fitting and repair and they'll charge $1500. Its a $400+ option and they are charging an appalling amount!!...Im assuming it's mostly for labor and what not but I think I may be better off finding a car kit. They also said it was a farce if anydealer said it was not available as an after purchase retro-fit because it was always intended to be... Anyhow...Good Luck.

Re: Factory OEM Bluetooth Retro-fitting...
if it was intended to be retrofitted, than why wouldn't the dealer, and not some "company", do the retrofitting? i too missed out on bluetooth and would be willing to pay $800 for a retrofit. i figure you would have to get a new head-unit, which is probably ~$400, plus the other bluetooth components and labor. but $1500 seems way too much. you can get the Parrot CK3100 kit, which is highly praised, for only $200. i'm just waiting for someone else to do the first install.

Re: Factory OEM Bluetooth Retro-fitting...
I would estimate that the hardware costs are about $400. The interface should be less than $300 (the last number I heard was bout 250 Euro), plus a micro, speaker, BT antenna and the harness. I have no clue if the phone interface harness is integrated into one of the other harnesses in the car (maybe someone with access to a parts catalogue can look this up), or separate (which would a retrofit much easier). If there is no OEM harness the costs to produce a single custom harness are significant. But there is a chance that somebody will produce such a custom harness for a BT phone retrofit, similar to what has been done to retrofit the RNS-E. I know that several people are interested in this and are already researching possibilities.

PSA: RNS-E still has no solution for full bluetooth integration as far as I know
I peruse a lot of the UK forums about the RNS-E system and no one has cracked it yet for a retrofit with full functionality.

Dealer retrofit is not entirely accurate
The BT option is actually a "dealer installed option". Should someone order it, the car will be shipped with the hardware and software to install and activate the feature within the RSN-E unit. With that said, more than likely, the back of the Nav unit should have a harness socket for the mic, speaker and antenna. Then, there will probably be a CD (or maybe a procedure using the Nav buttons themselves) that installs or activates the feature within the Nav system. I'd bet that all of the hardware components could be ordered separately, then just ask you service advisor if they have the CD or instructtions from a previous install to activate it in another car. I asked this question a few days ago but I wasn't aware that it's a dealer installed option. Assuming you can order the harness, mic, antenna and speaker, It shouldn't cost you more than the cost of the components. Assuming you can get the dealership to intall the software for your for free and you are capable of installing the hardware.

The bluetooth on the A4 does not show the same thing at all.
Actually it does not work using the Nav screen but only the Driver's information display.
On the Nav screen it only says: Please use Cell Phone.
Europe must have a different system. They are "Light years" ahead of us in cell phone technology.

For the most part, Blue Tooth is a universal standard.
But this is really about the RSN-E functionality. The picture above by "Stoodo" appears to show what the phone / bluetooth option will look like on the RSN-E based Nav systems. The fact that earlier systems don't incorporate the phone display onto the screen isn't really surprising. They may have been limited by several factors. It would appear however that the release of the DVD based RSN-E systems in the newer cars plus the fact that everything is now ME-9 / CAN-BUS architecture, provides much greater overall capability. It would be a safe assumption that the newer NAV systems would be imbeded with the display function of periferal systems. (i.e. Blue tooth, phone etc as It already handles the radio functions) and a simple configuration procedure or firmware update (CD) would activate the feature(s)which are currently dormant.
