Better yet
I solved the leak!
I considered moving them up-top...but I think I actually have the most usuable trunk space with this setup. I'm pretty much always carrying the same items in the trunk anyways, and it all fits.

Nope. They're 40amp Bosch relays
ordered from www.waytekwire.com
I used to use Radio-Shack relays, but the contacts inside burn out much quicker then the bosch units from waytek.

Moving Battery to "Back Seat" Photos
First of all, thanks for the posts about your race car. I really like to see the ideas that other folks have.
Anyway, I decided to put my battery box where the back seat used to be because I would rather try to centralize mass wherever possible, rather than try to "balance" my weight distribution. Obviously, I could do even better here if I cut out the floor and welded-in an Audi battery box, but that will just have to wait.
I bought a battery box kit from Summit for $43. To be honest, it looks like it is actually two different kits that they put together and I can't figure-out how they could possibly work together without cutting the box. You can see that I had to cut a hole for the metal tab to which the rods hook.

You can see from the second photo that I also had to cut the lid of the battery box to clear the tab/rod, so that the box would close properly.

Not that it is rocket science, but the kit came with basically worthless directions. You can probably just buy a marine battery box (I saw them at Wal-Mart) and ordinary hardware for much less and make yourself a kit that is just as good.
Not too much else to comment upon. I selected an Optima Red Top battery, which is pretty small (you can see the adjustable brace in the box). We used 2 ga. wire for ground and primary power bus. We also ran a 4 ga. wire directly to the starter. We have a secondary fuse box, a kill switch, and some switched components (switched and relayed high-speed fan), but I'll post those details later on my site.
Later,
Jimmy

Nice!
My battery was moved to the trunk for convineince rather then weight distribution. First off, if I put it in the passenger compartment I have to either a) buy a sealed battery box or b) buy a sealed battery. I didn't really want to spend the money ;-) But secondly, and far more important, is that I mount my two spare tires (and shovels in winter) in the back seat. Far easier and quicker to get at and keeps the greater weight centralized.
I don't think I've ever been to your site...should I be heading over for a look?
Anything you ever want photographed of mine, just ask. I've got a battery cut-off switch, full push button starter and various other goodies all wired into the beast.

P.S. Agreed! The kits suck! I couldn't use various bits of mine, and had to do some modifications to other parts (cutting the corners off the bottom tray) but much easier then starting from scratch...

Sure, head on over...
My site hasn't been updated in awhile. Usually my updates are just posts to the eS2 forum. Sometimes I'll post here (look for the "It's Alive" post somewhere on this page or the next). Anyway, you can check the link below.
As for photos, I'll absorb anything you can post-up. I have enjoyed your updates quite a bit so far, which is why I am trying to do my part by following along with my take on things. Though I am a bit behind your efforts (the car only started yesterday), we look to have similar goals for our cars. There aren't many guys building or running fully committed Audi race cars, so I figure we all need to stick together to share ideas and see what works. On these forums, that means squidix9, fusilier, you and me. Maybe a couple of others.
Anyway, let's continue to share notes. You gave me some really helpful notes about roll cages recently. Thanks.
Cheers,
