Default Chip / Software upgrade recommendation for this V8?

<center><img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/AudiAdvocate/10best.jpg"></center><p>
My Tuning guy is recommeding GIAC software (about CDN$900)..

Any experience with GIAC or other chip options?

From the GIAC site:: "GIAC performance software for the 2005 - 2003 B6 S4® 4.2L smoothly delivers a 15-23 hp and 15-28 ft-lbs gain. For optimum power gains the software must be coupled with a cold air intake"

Default Re: Chip / Software upgrade recommendation for this V8?

I have a 2002 A6 4.2 an I used Unichip. With Unichip I was able to get a customized program that was done by having a technition sit in the car, with a computer plugged in to the ecu, and flooring the car in every gear to make sure the engine was getting the optimal fuel/air/timing combination - taking into consideration my Milltek exhaust system and other modifications. I can say it definitely made a difference.

I certainly can't bash GIAC though, as I used them when tuning my 2002 S4 Avant. My car was a rocket after adding the chip, however, the program was an off the shelf version for my M Box ECU and I wasn't able to customize it in any way.

Default How do you like the A6 4.2?

What kind of HP boost did you get?

I love that car - mine was stolen (2002 4.2) Black on black - now gracing the streets of eastern Europe!

Thanks for the reply.

Default Got A Question

I'm sorry to take you off track regarding your question about software. However I noticed that you said one of your mods is the "H-Sport" Sway Bars.

If I remember correctly tose are the biggest in diameter that you can get for the S4s. And the rear bar has 2 settings.

Can you speak to your experience with those bars, both on the track and on the road.

By the way, the only experience I have had thus far with GIAC is with my MINI Cooper S. I had a MINI before my S4 and I had the GIAC software downloaded to the onboard computer. It did everything it said it would.

Default Answer

Love the H-Sport sways. Too bad OEM sways are not as good - much needed on this heavy car.

On the road or on the track she corners much flatter with noticeable straight line stability improvement!

Cheapest upgrade possible!

Default I have heard good about giac. I never heard anything about APR but they also make a chip.

Also just a quick question. How do you compare the performance of the S4 V8 to the A6 4.2? Thanks....

Default A6 4.2 versus S4 4.2

<center><img src="http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i91/AudiAdvocate/V8.jpg"></center><p>Besides the obvious space advantage of the A6 (I do miss that space)the S4 is more lithe on the track and does have an extra 40 HP.

... but I still miss my (stolen) A6 4.2.

Can't awit for the A7!!! 4.??

Cheers

Default I have a REVO chip as well as a Millteck cat back w/ a Tiptronic,,,,the flash

caused the car to run in regular stock drive mode as if it were in the stock sport mode. In the sport mode with the flash and cat Back the car is a rocket. REVO will flash your car for free and the flash only lasts a certain amount of time. The authors of the chip article were correct, that is the car didn'nt run noticeably differently until the CPU normalized to the flash. When the time period ran out on the REVO flash was where I noted the difference. It was astounding. I immediately went back and had them install the permenant flash and am extremely satisfied. The only other mod I would like to do is a set of downpipes, but for $2000.00 for the cats and pipes it is a hard purchase. I don't have the disposable income that I once had.
