Road Trip!
So a friend of me calls me up on Friday, and asks if I want to go on a road trip this week.
As I'm off on holidays, with nothing really planned, I said sure! Where to?
Oh, nothing exciting. He just wanted to do the Blue Ridge Parkway, from one end to the other, leaving from the Toronto Ontario area..!
So we headed out Sunday afternoon, going through Buffalo ~ 4pm.
Got to Waynesboro Va, about 4am Monday morning, after a nightime drive down Skyline Drive through a State park. Extra lighting helped a bit!

Got to Gatlinburg, TN Tuesday Night (Home of "Dollywood", among all the other touristy things). About 1800 km on the urq odo so far, with only some tire pressure tweaking required so far.
"Cliche" lookout photo, with me trying not to fall off the wall:

At the bottom end of the parkway..

Finally, after two days of driving: Mile Marker 469, at the south end of the parkway!

This evening (Tuesday), arrived in Gatlinburg TN. We'll go exploring in the mountains tomorrow, and then a full days drive straight home on Thursday.
I'm thinking I've seen enough twisty roads for a few days, but a good little run for the urq! (~3400 Km, by the time I returned home. Not bad for a 24 year old car!) :-)

Dude! Go a little southwest and do the "tail of the dragon" drive!!!
Deals gap, Tail of the Dragon is US Hwy 129 between Maryville and Robinsville, NC. You have to do that road, 11 miles with 318 turns of twisty up, down, left, right, fun, goodness of road.
I drove it last year with my son in his Corrado, it is a total blast.
You aren't that far away...do it!!!!

Thinking of doing the "tail of the dragon" drive, but..
Although from the TOD website, it sounds like the road is being 'over enforced'..

http://www.tailofthedragon.com/dragon_THP.html</a

You won't get going that fast...
Seriously, I did see a cop sitting on the north end by the lake. Mostly there are bikers running that. I only did it with limited throttle and brake and had a blast. You don't have to go try and kill yourself to have fun.
It is worth taking the time to run it once or twice. I've NEVER been on a road that made me smile like that one.
Take it easy and enjoy the drive! There is no points for driving it fast until you learn the road.
I certainly don't regret it...and you have to stop at the "tree of woe" at deals gap.

Yeah, those are sport bike parts on the tree...

Fun at legal speeds
Even driving my CGT pretty hard down there I only got over the posted limit a few times for very brief periods. You spend the whole time turning sharply, so getting up real speed is nigh impossible in moderately powered cars like ours.
One tip: do NOT cross over the center line, ever. The bikers don't appreciate it, and it's a far bigger challenge to run the road that way. I also enjoyed running it most early in the morning (especially Sunday...zero traffic) and after dark. The latter only after many, many passes and I knew the road.

I had considered that car a few years ago...
before I got my 4000. Unfortunately, thought it was a good car, I couldnt justify the asking price to myself (though it wasn't bad in the grand scheme of things).
