Parking garage abandoned 84 GT Coupe update...
I posted a week ago about the abandonded 84 GT Coupe in a garage in Kansas City. Thought I would update everyone with the current status.
Last weekend several of us talked and plotted the extraction. Monday AM we decended on the building with a trailer, truck with a winch, tires, tools, (Sledge hammer), jacks etc.
It only took about an hour to get the wheels on, break loose the rear hubs and have the car rolling. We didn't have a key and luckily the steering wheel lock was working so we were able to steer the car through the garage to the ramp up to the main level.

We loaded the car on the trailer and took it out to my house. Some pics in the light of day.

Overall it was looking pretty good until we noticed this gaping split in the floor pan. Ouch...looks like someone (most likely the demolition team) lifted the car with a fork lift tearing and bending up the frame. Frankly that tear along with the rust has taken the thoughts of restoration out of our heads.

While this car could be restored, it is a matter of would it be prudent to restore it? After some research it appears there are much better examples of GT coupes out there that would make better project cars. Therefore at this point we're most likely going to setup a time soon to strip the car of the good parts and then dispose of the bones at an auto-shredder. This car was taken care of as there is visible wax in the lips around the doors and trunk lid...really too bad.
I'd be interested in hearing suggestions on what to take off. We're planning to pull motor & transmission, interior panels and plastics, gauges, and there are a couple of good wheels in the trunk...Oh...I forgot, there is a bra in very good condition in the trunk.
I'm pretty busy the next few weeks but will try and get the motor running just to see if it will.
Spousal unit has approved a short stay, so it's covered in plastic and a tarp in the drive for now.

It should start.....
The I5 is famous for sitting for a long time and firing right up assuming the starter, plugs, etc. are ok. Shouldn't have a problem parting it out, should bring enough funds to find a clean Coupe GT. The engine bay is cleaner then my car. Were pre '85 cars more prone to rust then the later cars? I've seen this kind of rust pretty much only on older UrQs and of course VW Quantums (cheaper paint/rust protection).

I'll take the 2 plastic headlight bezels ( frames) and the dashboard (not the cluster or console) if you want to part it out.

We'll that's a damn shame...
I am feeling a bit vulturish though so how much for the following?
Front turn signals, marker lights and headlight trim. Rear drivers side bumper pieces (side panel, metal top corner trim, and drivers half of top panel)
Thanks Kris,

Left fender , plastic fender liners, lr window gasket, windshield gasket., lower rad cardboard
There's plenty of good stuff on the car, but a fender probably wouldn't ship well (to NY).
