Default Any idea what this part is?

I just bought a 2005 (B6) 3.0L A4 manual. Everything seems fine, and it passed PA inspection, but today I noticed a vacant spot under the hood. A quick search online revealed that other cars had a component in this spot. Any idea what it is?

Thanks.

No one knows?
I guess this isn't really a technical forum.

It's the Brake Vacuum pump. Part # 8E0 927 317. Tee's into the Brake booster through one hose that runs through the cowl wall. I think they are only used on non turbo cars but I may be wrong.

The brake vacuum pump is typically needed only on automatic transmission cars.
Your A4 is a manual so it does not use the pump. Audi has a very good service intro booklet for the 3.0l 30 valve V6 but that booklet doesn't tell you the 3.0l is prone to oil sludge build up much more than the 2.8l V6 that it replaced.
