Default 2.8 intake

I installed a cai for my 2.8 but surprisingly when i touched the intake after usage, it felt very hot. Is that normal for it to be hot, that would basically mean that I am sucking in hot air. I have a feeling stock airbox is better

Your feeling is probably correct. where does the cai end and do you have a heat shield?

Default yes i have a heat shield and a breather filter. i used my stock airbox filter cover also

so my cai pretty much sits in the old place where my oem air filter used to be.

Default Unless you can get it down towards the lower grills

to get some fresh air it'll never be as good as a stock box. There's just too many places for hot air to enter, even with a shield.
Of course if you do extend it down then you risk sucking up water.
Either way not really worth it IMO.

Default And then there's always the conflicting perspective...

I've had my EvoMS air intake, which I purposely refrain from calling a "cold air intake" as it is not, for about a year. Contrary to the opinion of many, which may be well qualified and justified, I love my intake and do believe that there are performance gains (albeit minor gains) to be had from the upgrade. Comparative to other non-forced induction upgrades, the ~$250 price is justifiable (especially if you consider that an upgrade like a cat-back exhaust system, liable to set you back nearly $1,000 or more with install also has relatively minor gains).

Unfortunately, and this is a great regret of mine, I did not have my car dyno tested immediately before and after the install of the intake. At times I wish I had, even if just to put some sort of evidence out there. So anything I say on the topic is to be considered purely my judgment, and that may be good or bad depending on what you think of me.

If you would like to further experiment with the air intake that you have (I'm assuming it is the EvoMS or similar, as I am not aware of any design variations), I suggest you search for forum topics by "djnelsen". He may have a FAQ in his profile. He experimented with heat shielding material, and successfully (and seemingly easily) constructed a "box" that kept his intake relatively cold. This type of modification would incur very little expense on your part. If you are interested, I have also posted extensively on the topic in this forum.

Default yeah, but the snow plow in mtl doesn't help the cause

That's what I figured. I think I am going to sell the CAI and return to stock with an k and N air panel filter that I had on before. For me, performance comes first rather than sound.

Default minimal gains.

the problem is not the amount of air entering the engine, we have plenty with the stock intake, the problem lies when it gets mixed with the hot air of the engine bay.
