Default Exhaust on a 2.7t

What do you think about cutting my stock exhaust at the resonators and just putting 2.5in piping all the way back to 3-3.5in tips? No mufflers at first, if i dont like it i can always throw a couple mufflers into the mix. Has anyone ever heard of this? Any thoughts ideas, should cost me about $300-$500.

Is the stock 3inch? i thought it was 2.5, and i figure if i wind up just staying muffler-less 2.5 inch should be fine, but if it is already 3inch im surely not gonna shrink the pipe

stock is like 2.1 something, so not 2 1/4 even. just go 3 or larger. it'll be sweet.
