2.7T Turbo Replace/Rebuild?
I see some of the horror stories aboout blown turbos on this motor, I have one in my 2001 Allroad. It will crack the 100k mark soon and while I know the expense of new turbos is out of my budget right now, what is the harm in having a specialist rebuild the turbo. Other then some wearing and opening of tolerences I thought the failure in a turbo were things like bearings and seals?
Has anyone gone this route and provide pros or cons. Thx

Nope, just preventative....
I am the type of person who likes to prepare. I have a chance to get blown turbos for cheap and though in my spare time or a shops time I could have them rebuilt and maybe enhanced a bit (porting/polishing). But when mine do go I want to make sure the rebuilt are just a good as say dropping $2400 in two new ones. Piece of mind out is a large factor in what I do.

If you are going to pull the engine...
Then you should be able to afford new upgraded turbo's. If there are no signs your turbo's are going and you cannot afford to upgrade I would wait it out. If you rebuild you could be pulling your motor twice.

Spare turbo set...
No, what I was thinking was picking up a set of turbos now and having them rebuilt. Either K04's or stock K03's. This way when mine do go I have everything to have them installed. I have a lead on a set with one turbo blown. Also believe I can find a set of K04's. I like to be prepared, plus when time comes the money I saved on the rebuilt units versus new, I can upgrade intercoolers.
