Default GT28R Turbo Advise

I have a 2001 TTR 225. Apr 93/100 program and the basic bolt on goodies. There's a local shop that said a GT28 will bolt right up.Can someone please let me know if my ECU will support this....I don't want limp, limp, limp!! Thanks for any Help..

Default sure you can bolt it up....but to see max gains....your ECU needs to be tuned to it.

without tuning...you will never see max power out of it. the ECU is not mapped for that size of a turbo. k04 has a weak map. that GT28 will flow more than that k04 at the same boost levels so you need some kind of solution for running the bigger turbo. i don't see limp as being a problem. all i see is a big turbo and weak ECU program running it.

Default it's not a matter of boost... it's just not the right programming.

Search your model forum; I'm sure there are guys running GT28R, etc. over there.

I'm pretty sure APR's Stage III for the TT is that same turbo... i doubt they'd sell the tuning for it separately, though. This does NOT mean your APR 100 octane program will suffice!

Utronics seems to be the big player in BT tuning these days.

Default I'm not so sure it's a worthwhile venture

the TT seems to do pretty well with a high boosting K04. In fact, on the dyno the power is surprisingly good. I would think the GT28R isn't going to be as big a jump as you might think. I think you want to look at a GT28RS or even a GT2871R like APR uses in their 225TT stage 3 kit. I made the move from the GT28R to the GT28RS in my A4 and the power gain is nice, but the low end really isn't all that different. So my advice is always to reccomend the RS over the R.

Revo supposedly has a nice file also, and is cheaper than unitronics
