Default Bored MAF...purchase/procedure for modification?

Where can I find either a bored MAF for sale, or a reference to performing the modification to my own MAF screen?

Sorry guys, I've tried searching the forums, but I can't find a good thread than answers my questions. I'm SURE this topic has been covered to death, but the search function on here (and the structure of the forums...) both are somewhat subpar.

I think we really need a 12v FAQ, or at least contact info for what remains of mance's mods.

Default The procedure is fairly simple...

And it is definately a good DIY project. You will need a dremel or grinder in order to remove the metal obstruction in the MAF.

The purpose of the screen is to smooth the air before it goes over the MAF sensor. In order to remove it, you need a velocity stack in your intake to replace it's function. You can buy a cone filter with a velocity stack installed, or possibly buy one from Mance to install in your airbox. gl!

I believe the pics are of Mance's work...so don't feel bad when yours doesn't look as good! ;P

Thanks to Mr. D for the pics!

Default One point to remember...

Do NOT remove the "step" in the MAF. Also, don't make the finish super-smooth.

80 grit sandpaper at the smoothest... anything smoother causes flow issues

Default Same thing goes for the velocity stack

For some reason a totally smooth surface flows worse than a slightly rough one. They are now experimenting with airplane wings that have tiny random bumps all over.

Default all in the fluid dynamics my man...

if I actually worked on it harder, I could conjur up some of the stuff I did in school in fluids... it's all in the math as to what makes it laminar flow vs turbulent... at this point though I couldn't tell you what causes them... only which one is which

Default ...specifically turbulance

Keep those frictional losses as low as possible. ;-)

Default The "step" is the raised edge before the sensor hole
