Oil Pan gaskets

Oil Pan gaskets
I seem to be inept at replacing the oil pan gaskets. The first two times I used RTV, this last time I used gaskets. IT STILL LEAKS!!!!
Was I supposed to coat the gaskets with a sealant? RTV or the stand-alone gasket maker stuff?
ECS sent me the wrong gasket, it was for a 1.8t. It looked a hell of alot better, copper gasket with rubber on the inside. I have replaced the exhaust gaskets (between down pipe and manifold) with home made aluminum ones that work great (and are reusable). Would a home made copper gasket is this case be best? What else am I doing wrong?
Thanks!!

Re: You shouldn't need to coat the gaskets with RTV. Bentley Manual only shows the gaskets.
