Default Yep, I'd agree that's the one. Ok, gotta be B6/S4 IM as B7/S4 is a V8

listed as "alloy intake manifold with dual plane runners"

Don't ask me ;-)

Default Re: Name that part...

See also:12v.org

Also from the above site:

"Maximum torque: 250Nm (184ft. lbs.) @ 3000 rpm"

Note how manifold switch-over is well above this engine speed.

Given your dilemma, where are you most likely to want any extra power in day to day (below 4100 rpm) driving?

I'll venture to guess you'll prefer the long passage-ways; after you try them.

Default methinks he means the IM switchover actuator/vacuum diaphram...

and knowing what I know today and "if" my car were closer-to-stock I'd run open secondaries. If I were mileage-minded I'd run open primaries/closed secondaries. If I wanted to play around I'd experiment with various fixed degrees of open secondaries. There just might be some interesting results there!

Default My car is very stock, have been running open secondaries all...

winter, as it's current I/M has no secondary valves. It is mucho Chihuahua like. I've driven it both ways; and I much prefer it stuck on long-path. "If your gonna be a dog..."

My other/better manifold is out for more re-working of the (wouldn't you know it) long paths!

so you prefer the long/low RPM to short/high RPM if you had to choose 1 "or" the other?

Default Absolutely. Don't get me wrong, I love how the trip from 4.1 to 5.5k goes...

by so much quicker, than from the equivalent 2.7 to 4.1k, with operable secondaries. However given the choice, I'll take long path, any day. It's just that so much more of my driving occurs in that sub-4.1k range.

Default I think you have the 2 paths confused with one another. With butterflies in place...

and short path/high RPM butterflies closed the car takes FOREVER to get from 4.1k to redline. It simply can't ingest enough air thru the long/low RPM runners only.

Primaries= long path/low RPM runners that max out at/near 4k
Secondaries= short path/high RPM runners that come alive at 4k and require vacuum diaphram actuator to open them. When open BOTH the small diameter primary and large diameter secondary paths are providing air to the intake valves.

If running like a raped ape is the goal then short path/high RPM runners are the "if you're gonna be a dog, why be a Chihuahua" path you want ;-)

And hell, maybe I'm misunderstanding. My brow is furrowed. Furrowed brow gives me a headache. Where's my Tylenol!?!

Default I just could not resist the invitation &, BTW y'all, I never left, I just retired from posting

Also, I think I own the record for the number of head gasket replacements on a 12v at 5. I just had to replace another set; this time, the anti-knock sensors failed after 240,000+ miles and I suffered a lack of ignition retard resulting in a nice little bit of detonation that ate right through the metal ring on the head gasket between cylinders 4 & 5. Everything in the engine looked absolutely perfect except for that one point of the head gasket. Consistent with my masochistic tendencies, my 12v is running hard again. ;-) I even replaced a leaky heater core!

I feel like the Kung Fu Panda character as he gets brutally beaten in training: "Don't worry master, I'll never quit." LOL (I guess that you can tell I got young kids).
