The later ECU's are certainly a bear to deal with.
As others have mentioned the later ECUs are a much less friendly design. The main processor also contains the program memory, as opposed to being discrete units as found on most ECUs. Initially our chipsets will support only the earlier style ECU.
This doesn't make chipping them completely impossible, just very improbable as the amount of work/risk to the board/effort to extract, socket, and reprogram the kind of chip used on those board is extremely labor and parts cost intensive. We're working on some other solutions, but it will be down the road a ways.

If that's the case, I think a lot (at least some) of the excitement...
generated by these 034 / 12V Chip posts is a little premature.
Just take a look at Mr Dobey's post at the top of this forum for one example (he has an A4). Even a couple of the people in this thread have A4s and not the older 12Vs.
Chips for the older ECUs have existed for a while, so while I believe the 034 chip will be MUCH superior for these applications, it isn't as revolutionary as some on this board are thinking. TAP has had a chip for the MMS200 for years (not that I'd buy from them).
Not a knock on you guys at all...I have a ton of 034 stuff on my UrS cars and plan on even more, but after YEARS of people searching and trying to find a 12V chip, this is a very touchy subject for many of us, so I hope you can set everyone's expectations correctly (with the main example being that the current work you're doing will not be for the 12V A4).

Agree and I even brought this up initially saying it wouldn't be a "walk in the park"...
but was told summarily; "Tuning the timing and fueling isn't a problem for us at all." Tho I've always known if that were the case the 12V MMS300/400 would've had access to aftermarket chip-tuning long, long ago. But no one here's any worse-off than they were before, ie; we were all looking for a chip when we hitched our wagon to 034's star. This is only the 14th or 15th star I've hitched my wagon to since owning a 12V and getting my MMS400 ECU back from Garrett Lim at GIAC and being told: "flat-out cheaper to go stand-alone than modify this ECU."

Never once did any of us promise a blanket solution, only that we'd see what we could offer.
Tuning the timing and fueling isn't a problem, as we've stated before, it's the hardware implementation on the later ECU's that make any modification unfriendly. Not once did we say we'd be able to easily and cheaply provide a chip for every iteration under the sun.
That said, the progress and tuning done on the early ECUs will provide avenues for the later 80/90 crowd as well. The ECU's can be used with very minimal modification in the cars that used up to the MMS311 ECU.

No one has accused you of saying that. Only what "was" said and nothing more!
There's no "bad guy" here. Hey, ya gave it a shot. We all appreciate the time/effort spent. Maybe some day that effort will pay off for MMS300/400 series ECU's. Least it's a "definate maybe" which is more than we had before ya looked into it. We're all a bit disappointed but I'm sure you guys are too. Hell, no one wants to intentionally leave 90+% of the 12V market untapped when working on something specifically 12V-related... Economics 101.

link

I agree with everything Mance said...
It was never explicitly stated what version(s) of the ECU you'd be working on (or at least starting with) and a lot of the newer members around here might not know the difference...so seeing progress for the older cars gets hopes up for the newer models as well.
I suspected that it was probably the case that the A4 ECU wasn't included, but I have to admit that even I got my hopes up a little bit for a plug and play solution.
Just trying to avoid confusion and make sure that people aren't getting their hopes up only to be disappointed later.

in your origional post with out mentioning which model 12v i ..
wrongly assumed it was for all 12v's with little to moderate intake mods. which i have some intake mods. but not until now was the mention of different ecu's I too have a 12v a4 and had my hopes up.. which are not up any more.
