Low P/S Fluid ??
I have a '02 A4 1.8t. This morning I noticed a slight grinding/vibration noise while turning the wheel at low speeds. When I got to work I checked the power steering fluid and noticed it was almost completely empty. I have two questions:
1. Is there not an indicator of some kind that would show up on console to give me a warning?
2. I had 60k service done the last week in October. Should the fluid have been checked during the service? I couldn't see a leak of any kind.
Thanks.

nope
there arn't any sensors or warnings that are going to pop up on the dash, audi/vw's have magic p/s fluid that dissapears. I would check the boots on the ends of the p/s rack to make sure your rack not leaking. It's a pretty common place to loose fluid but you won't know it cause the boots keep the fluid in.

I have an '02 1.8t Audi TT 225 and this winter season was the first time I've had the power steering "Moan". I checked the dip and the level was just below min. I ordered the Pentosin CHF 11S oil for central hydraulic systems and brought the level back up just above the min. mark. The noise went away; so, it takes just at six years for this fluid to dissipate below the min level. It might have been somewhere between 6-8 fl. oz. that I added; about a wine glass full. The container that the fluid came in still seems full!
