Default 2001 A4 AWM 1.8T Engine rattle

Help,
I've got this 1.8t 145k engine has a rattle on the top behind the engine and rpm sluggish. Some times throws intermittent coe P0011 for the timing over advanced. The noise comes back also on idle when vehicle gets to operating temperature. I took it to dealer they said they need to drop the pan and see what's going on. I did the work my self and replaced the pickup tube while I was there.

Everything looked good. I put 5w40 from dealer. Anyone know what might be the issue here? Could the chain tensioner be failing internally? I popped the valve cover put no damage seen. Noise is very annoying and getting worse. Thanks for viewing.

Sounds to me like a bad timing chain tensioner.

That's what i'm thinking now! dealer said they would start with lowering pan and then replace tensioner. I'm going to get the part, I will need another tensioner tool for the one installed?

Yes sir. You will need to remove the intake camshaft to do it, no need to mess with timing belt stuff it you dont have to. remember, 16 links arrow to arrowish.

some of these show too much liquid gasket was used on the valve cover seals.

did you ever find out what caused the tensioner oil screen to collapse?
