Default 1.8 TFSi slow to turn over and engine light is on.

My car takes a short while to turnover (but not every time). It is an intermittent problem and tends to struggle most when its warm. The engine light was on, then went off (even though the problem was still there) and now is back on. I have had the Cam sensor changed as this is what fault was flagged up as, but its still as bad. The car on the whole runs well, perhaps a slight hesitation when accelerating but very minor. It was last serviced in November. Anyone any suggestions what this could be? Cheers

Try checking the EGR valve as these tend to stick and give poor starting and loss of power.

I have read that this would generally not lead to poor starting...?

There is no EGR on a 1.8T.....I would start with checking that cam timing is correct, if its off a tooth, it will set cam sensor codes.

Thanks for the reply.
It has done about 62k now so was thinking of getting cam belt changed shortly.do you think its worth bringing this forward and getting it all looked at?
Is adjusting the cam timing relatively straight forward for a novice?

checking its pretty straight forward, roll the engine over till the mark on the balencer and lower cover line up, remove the upper cover, and make sure the mark is right on. if its a tooth off, there the issue. As far as adjusting it, i would just replace all the stuff with that mileage and age. its not a novice repair no.

Should had the vehicle moved long time ago. Guessing is not the issue. Need to know how a simple engine works.
